News reading apps have been going through sort of an evolution period as developers and publications continue to experiment with various formats and approaches for delivering stories your phone. The app brings a Tinder-like interface for reading news. And it’s created by someone who’s probably barred from using Tinder for being under-aged! 14-year-old, Alex Goodison, from Ireland is the developer behind this app.
Meet, “Swiipe News”.
Swiipe News borrows design cues from Tinder allowing you to save, read or dismiss stories based on left or right gestures through a customized feed. Swiping the card to the right will bookmark the article for later, swiping left will discard it and lastly, tapping the story will let you view it at the moment itself. In addition to that, you can select sources from a list of about 50+ feeds. The developer does mention a future update will bring about 300 more of these. Although it would have been better if the app had an option for adding a custom one by an RSS address.
Furthermore, you can go through the swiping process in a particular category such as “Business”, “Sports” as well. The second tab on the home screen contains all your saved articles. The developer says he has specifically paid attention to the design for fabricating a more refined user experience. This, of course, also allows “Swiipe News” stand out in the exhaustive news section of your phone’s app store by not following the mundane and standard aesthetic approach.
“Swiipe News” certainly seems like an app worth trying out as it eliminates all the clutter you usually encounter on a run-in-the-mill news platform with a straightforward and minimalistic design. It still, however, can feel a bit underpowered for users looking for a more granular control over what they want to read. I’m sure, though, the developer will continue to bring a slew of updates in the future. Unfortunately, “Swiipe News” is right now limited to iOS devices with no timelines for an Android version just yet. It is, though, entirely free of cost and you can try it out from this link.
