Wallpapers are probably one of the most underrated aspects of software customization especially when we talk about smartphones. Most users never even get past the default one, sadly. However, they are an essential component of your phone’s aesthetics and in this article, we will walk you through a couple of sources where you can find the best digital backdrops available out there.
Wallpaper Apps
The most straightforward approach to having fresh new wallpapers is to use a native app which are present in abundance on the stores.
iOS wallpaper apps
Apple already bundles a range of alluring backgrounds on iOS, however, if you’re looking for more – try an app called “Wallpapers Plus”. The highly popular customization app (100 Million users) features a wide set of backdrops in almost every category including abstract, landscapes and more. Furthermore, the developer promises over 200 daily new wallpapers which is quite commendable. The app is available for free, although do note it’s a 130MB download.

Android wallpaper apps
Now, coming to Android, where options for customization apps are substantially more versatile and dense.
Starting off with my personal favorite, Backdrops. It’s possibly the most popular app out there in this category and packs a rich set of exclusive as well as fresh wallpapers for your phone. Backdrops, though, isn’t entirely free. The Pro version allows you to access a much wider collection, however, I’m using the free version and it works just fine unless you alter wallpapers every day.
However, on Android, you aren’t limited to static backdrops. There are various applications that automatically cycle between wallpapers based on your preferences. One of such is “Muzei”, a live wallpaper that refreshes your home screen with popular artworks. Muzei is, in fact, modular meaning you can plug it with any other compatible customization app (like Backdrops) as a source.
Another app worth trying out is “Tapet”. Tapet is known for its intelligent algorithms which automatically generate a unique abstract wallpaper for you every day. Moreover, you can also manually browse them or configure your preferences such as color, pattern and more. Tapet is entirely free of cost and you can download it from this link.
Lastly, we have an app from the mothership itself – Google Wallpapers. Yes, Google too has its wallpaper app and it’s actually quite impressive. Google Plus Communities
If you are looking for an unparalleled and endless wallpaper collection, you’ll have to visit Google+. Yes, the social network you probably never opened once in your lifetime. But apparently, wallpaper communities are a big deal on Google Plus and there are a whole bunch of them that regularly post tens of new backdrops for you to try out. The ones I usually visit are Absolutely wallpapers, Material Walls, and “Nature and Landscapes”. You’ll discover more as you browse daily.
Other Sources
If you’re still not satisfied, there are a couple of other platforms you can check out. One such is the “iWallpaper” subreddit on Reddit that almost every day features a new backdrop for you to download. Additionally, there’s an entire website dedicated to wallpapers titled “AndroidWalls” that claims to consist of over 2200 wallpapers, although you’ll have to try a bit harder here to locate a good one.
