If you tell me you never wondered why you ever purchased an app after buying it, I’m afraid I can’t trust you anymore. It happens to the best of us, and pretty sure it has happened at least once in our lives. Sometimes you’re lucky enough to get free apps that we simply download, install, and then uninstall. But what if you paid good money for an app and then realized you didn’t need it?
The good news is that you can get your money back, and the simple way to put it is: report a problem. No matter if you purchased the app from the iTunes Store, from Google Play, Windows or BlackBerry’s store, you can ask for a refund. Simply follow the steps below according to the type of phone you own.
From iTunes or the App Store
Because Apple is so cool, it even comes with a special corner dedicated to solving such issues. It’s called iTunes Refund, and you can find it by launching iTunes on your PC/Mac. You will then see a tab for Reporting a Problem, and you can choose between categories: all, movies, music, apps, books, TV shows, etc.
Once you go into the apps section, you will see a list of all the apps you’ve installed using iTunes. On the right-hand side of the screen, you will find the Report a Problem key. All you need to do is select a reason for requesting a refund, enter your message in the box and click on Submit.
The same can also be done by going to this section on their website. You will have to login using your Apple ID and password. Once this is done, you will go through the same steps as before – select a category, then the app and fill in the necessary details before you submit it.
As shown in the video below, you can also do this by going to your Purchase History on the iTunes website. This will also require you to log into your account. This is an archive that lets you see all of your latest purchases, including very in-depth details. Once you found the app you wanted, you have to click on the date when it’s been bought, and then go to Report a Problem. The steps to follow afterwards are fairly similar to what you’ve seen before.
From Google Play’s Store
Fortunately enough, the same can be done in case you purchased something from Google Play. The refund option will only be available for a maximum of 15 minutes, so you’d better hurry up and get your money back before it’s too late.
To report a problem in this case, you will have to do the following:
- Launch Google Play on your mobile phone or tablet.
- Select Menu and go to My Apps.
- Choose the app that you don’t want anymore and click on Refund.
- Click Uninstall and wait for the process to be over.
- Open Google Play in your browser, and then sign into your account.
- Find the app that you want to give back and click on the three dots next to its name.
- Choose Report a Problem and go for the option saying “I’d like to request a refund”.
- You will need to explain the reason why and click on Submit once you’re done.
It typically takes a day or two for Google to analyze your request and get back to you. Unless you’ve waited too long, or something went wrong, you should get your money back and receive an email from the helpdesk saying that the refund has been processed.
For Windows Phones
Windows Phones are a little different than iOS and Android. And there isn’t any obvious refund policy, so the only option you have is to talk to a representative and describe the problem you’re experiencing.
It doesn’t take long for the support team to get back to you, and there is a special Chat area where you can directly talk to the staff. Simply go to this web page and sign into your Microsoft Windows account. Open a chat box and wait for someone to be available, and then describe the situation and ask for the refund. It’s their job to judge whether or not you should get your money back, so fingers crossed!
For BlackBerry Smartphones
It’s true that BlackBerry is not very open about giving refunds, either. They even say that, “all sales are final, and BlackBerry Commerce’s policy is not to provide refunds.” However, the good thing is that they seem to have a proper customer support corner where you can ask for your money back.
It’s a little more complicated than the ones you have at iTunes or Google Play, but once you fill in the order number, name, email, PIN code, phone number and country, you will be able to hit the button saying Submit. It still depends on whether the staff at BlackBerry will see your request as genuine or not, but there are some chances of getting a refund.
The policy seems to be fairly different depending on the country you’re from. Therefore, take a look at the refund policy adapted to your country to make sure that you’ll be able to get the money back, how long it should take and how to go about it.
